Hello Lovelies! This week's Friday Favorites are pretty awesome; I'm not going to lie! Some of these things I've literally just discovered this week and some have been an obsession of mine for awhile. Note: I wrote this blog while listening to Lorde's debut album, Pure Heroin. It's amazing... everyone needs to buy it. Every single song is a hit. It's incredible!
Without further adieu: this week's Friday Favorites:
Number 10: Huge Sunglasses
Huge sunglasses are the bomb. If Cara Delevingne and Olivia Palermo are wearing them, you know know they're in! You can find these babies in stores from Chanel to Target and they're all just as fabulous. As winter is approaching the United States, sunglasses are becoming less prevalent as summer slips away, but these will always be necessary in places like New York City and California. So remember, next time you see big bug-eye sunglasses: 1. They're super cool. 2. You never know when you'll need them, so they're good to have. AND 3. They will never go out of style. They're worth it and so are you.
Number 9: Ellie Andrews Has Second Thoughts by Ruth Saberton
Number 8: Bindis
Bindis have been a thing outside hinduism for a while and they continue to make their mark in modern fashion everyday, from celebs at Coachella to models in high fashion magazines. Gwen Stefani brought them to pop culture in the mid-1990s and singers like Selena Gomez have kept up the trend. Some find that wearing bindis outside of the Hindu religion is disrespectful to tradition, but they're a cute decorative accessory and they are not being used to send a negative message. The way bindis are being used in modern times is respectful. I own a few bindis but haven't had the chance to wear them yet, because they require a specific event to be worn, like Boston Calling or Coachella and I haven't had the opportunity to attend one yet. Bindis are acceptable to wear in exceptionally trendy places like Venice Beach or SoHo... hopefully the bindi infection will become more accepted nationally. I'd love to casually wear one to school and not be judged.. so society...get on that!
Number 7: Muesli
CAN YOU SAY YUM?! I got introduced to this delicious breakfast food by my favorite Tumblr girl, Ally (these are her pictures). It's not oatmeal and it's not granola...it's just pure perfection. It's kind of a mix between the two, but it really depends on how you eat it. I have tried it two different ways, just over plain Chobani greek yogurt with sunflower and pumpkin seeds and fruit AND mixed with plain Chobani greek yogurt, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and chia seeds and left to sit overnight and then eaten with fruit. I like both ways A LOT, but I think my favorite is when the muesli is left to sit overnight! I wish muesli was more prominent in the United States because people in Australia and the UK are all about it! The box shown above is the muesli I eat and it's delectable!
Number 6: Halloweentown
YES HALLOWEENTOWN!! This series is AMAZING. It's a Halloween classic and must-watch every October. It's a Disney Channel original movie and it's a right of passage; you must watch Halloweentown to become a teenager. That's just how it is. These films are timeless and they include a lot of suspense and drama, along with a ton of spell casting and magic! If nothing I've said has convinced you to watch it yet, know that this movie will get you into the Halloween spirit as much as It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown. I watch these four movies once a week in October and when Halloween actually rolls around I'm so ready and I go around to all my friends saying:
Number 5: Pineapple Shorts
No matter what, pineapple shorts will always be trendy. These shorts are from a variety of stores and they would all be amazing additions to any wardrobe. The bottom-middle shorts from Lazy Oaf are super cute and cartoonish, while the shorts on the bottom-left from SPS Boutique capture the pineapple fad in a totally different way. This goes to show that no matter what they look like, they're adorable. A pair of sunflower shorts is on my list of needs for Summer 2014 and I'm sure it's just a matter of time before my local Urban Outfitters starts carrying a variation of these beauties. Plus, how cute would these all look with black jellies!!
Number 4: American Apparel Bustier
First off, I love this bustier so much that I just purchased it. I'm visiting my best friend in Pittsburg next week and we're seeing Rocky Horror. He's going to be Brad and I'm going to be Janet. You better believe that this is what I'm going to wear; I'm going to give Janet a classy-edge. So yes, this is the American Apparel Cotton Spandex Underwire Bustier in "Pretty in Pink." It also comes in black and white; the color options are easily matched colors. This is a good top for us small-chested gals who don't enjoy showing too much cleavage. Obviously the American Apparel model is rocking her boobage, but I will opt to wear it like Miss Ariana Grande and keep the girls tucked away. This top is kind of pricey for a crop top, but I think it's worth it! So if you're a money conscious girl, I recommend trying to find it on Amazon or Ebay for cheaper before taking the plunge and paying full price.
Number 3: "Tennis Court" by Lorde
This lady is going to be HUGE. Her whole album is a statement on society's obsession with wealth and possession intertwined with what it's like for a teenager to grow up in this world. Lorde's lyrics are very thought out and she definitely has talent, but she's been making a lot of statements dissing top hitters in the music industry. She's talented, there's no question, but she shouldn't be dissing the big guys in a business she's trying to break into. Regardless of her attitude, Lorde's lyrics are incredible and her voice is so different and interesting and I hope she continues to make a positive splash in the music industry. Everyone knows the song "Royals," but many who haven't heard her album don't know the song "Tennis Court." Listen below:
The song is so interesting and smart plus it has a contagious beat and melody that it's no wonder tons of covers have been created already. Below is my favorite cover that's been made so far and it's definitely worth a listen!
Number 2: Lucy in the Sky
Lucy in the Sky is an trendy Australian clothing store that carries probably half of the clothes you see on Tumblr. Sunflower shorts, pineapple shorts, overall shorts, skorts, and crop tops. Everything is pretty reasonably priced from $30+, the only problem is that you will want EVERYTHING. I find myself wasting hours of time on this site, just staring at all of the pretty clothes. I don't own anything from this site yet, but I will make a blog the moment I do because everything is utter perfection.
Number 1: Skorts
This style of skort is so big right now and it's pretty obvious why; it's beautiful and elegant. This skort gives the illusion of being a skirt from the front, but from the back it's a pair of trouser-like shorts. It can be worn so many ways and these styles can be seen all over magazines. I'm pretty sure this skort will look good with any outfit, considering I saw a woman wearing a black skort with a sweater and running sneakers in New York City and she was pulling it off! On the right column you will see three angles of the White Mini Skort from ZARA. It's approximately $50 and this style is so big currently that it would be a great buy to wear with tights in the fall. I'm planning on buying this skort in the spring with a shirt tucked in and a pair of jellies. I have had dreams of wearing this skirt, so it's clearly meant to be!
Hope you liked my Friday Favorites this week!
Much love! <3
